Hello everyone and welcome back,
We hope you had a restful Easter break and were able to enjoy some of the lovely weather we had. School is now back open for vulnerable students and the children of key workers. Staff will continue to set work for our young people via the platform of Show My Homework. We have produced the attached booklet, which is also available on our website, to help support families with home learning. We hope you find it useful. We completely understand that it is challenging to run ‘home school’ and that, quite naturally, some of our young people will start to lose momentum with their studies. Students are missing the interaction with their peers and teachers and the routine of school life.
Prior to the Easter break, we were so impressed with the support from parents and carers and with the work the majority of our young people were completing – thank you all! We know some students have found the situation incredibly stressful and have felt overwhelmed with the work. Please reassure your sons and daughters that we simply want our students to try their best, we don’t want anyone to feel anxious. Please contact us via email or telephone if you are concerned about work load or any other issues. If you have worries about any young person at the school please remember you can share this via our safeguarding email [email protected]
This week, some great on line resources have been launched. Staff will be using these sites to set work but please feel free to direct your son or daughter to these sites:
- The Oak National Academy
They have lessons for students in Years 7-10, across a variety of subjects. - BBC Bitesize
They now provide daily lessons for students in Years 7-10. The lessons are complemented with relevant programmes on their TV channels.
Both websites contain engaging, user friendly resources. We would also encourage you to make the most of ‘natural’ learning opportunities: cook or bake together, talk about the books you are reading, watch a documentary together, discuss what you see in your garden or when you go out for a walk. These are all valuable learning experiences for our young people.
Thank you for all you are doing to support your child and the school during these challenging times. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need support, we are still here to help.
Take care and stay safe,
Alison Brannick
Principal
