COVID-19 home testing
We would ask that students are testing at home twice a week, 3/4 days apart. To make this process meaningful and keep the school as safe as possible it is vital that students complete the twice weekly tests.
- The testing kit provided to students comes with full instructions but the video accessed by the following link is very helpful. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvaBZskxS7tzQYlVg7lwH5uxAD9UrSzGJ
- If your child tests positive you must report the result to the school ASAP via [email protected] You do not need to report negative/ void tests to the school. You must also report your child’s test result (positive/ negative/ void) to Test and Trace via https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result
- If your child does test positive he/she must self-isolate immediately, as must all members of your household, and take a PCR COVID-19 test. More information on how to access a PCR test can be found here https://maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/find-covid-19-rapid-test-sites
- Parents can order COVID-19 lateral flow testing kits for their whole household via the link below. Delivery is within two days and there are no charges for the testing kits. https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests
As always, if you have any questions on this please do contact me directly via the PA to the Principal, Miss Walendziewski ([email protected]) or email [email protected]
Summer assessments update for Year 11 and Year 13
It has been wonderful to welcome Year 11 and 13 back to school. Their attendance has been superb and we have been incredibly impressed with their positive and focused attitude. It is so important that all students maintain these high levels of commitment, as the work that students complete from now until June will be used as part of the evidence to inform their grades. It is vital our students remember that every lesson is an opportunity to secure their best possible grade.
How will qualifications be awarded in summer 2021?
- There will be no externally assessed examinations.
- Students will only be assessed on the content they have covered.
- The school will award grades based on a wide range of evidence. This will include class work, homework, in class assessments, trial examinations, subject specific assessments and work completed during the enforced school closure.
- In practical subjects with controlled assessments, students will continue to complete these pieces of work.
- Results will be issued to students nationally on 10 August
Trial examinations will take place for two weeks from the week beginning 12 April. We will provide you and your child with a trial examination timetable on Friday, 19 March. Staff will be preparing students for their trial examinations in their lessons so it is absolutely crucial that students are in school every day, fully engaged in lessons and completing homework. The trial examinations will be used as part of the evidence to award teacher assessed grades.
From week beginning 3 May, students will complete subject specific assessments in class. Again students will receive a timetable for the subject specific assessments and will be preparing for these in the lessons running up to the assessments.
Our focus for Year 11 and 13 is ensuring they are supported to achieve grades that reflect their commitment and hard work. The grades awarded by the school will be moderated and submitted to the examination board, which will review the grades submitted to ensure they have been awarded fairly. Please note, we are not allowed to share grades with students or parents/ carers prior to the national results’ day. We know our students will continue to work hard to ensure they receive the grades that they deserve, and look forward to celebrating these grades with them. We will provide information about the leaving date for Year 11 and 13 in due course.
Safety measures
As has been the case throughout the pandemic, the welfare of students and staff is always our top priority and we will do everything we can to make the school environment as safe as possible. From Monday we will return to the arrangements that were in place prior to the Christmas holiday.
- Year groups will remain in year group bubbles throughout the day
- Times of the day/ lessons will be the same as prior to the Christmas break, we have attached the times of the day for your information. The only change is that Year 11 tutor time will now finish at 3.15pm, this will allow subject intervention to take place after tutor time. We will send out the intervention timetable very soon.
- We will follow the same arrangements/ times for breaks/ lunchtimes, with students remaining with their year groups.
- All students and staff must bring face coverings to school and wear them at all times when in the school building, including in lessons. The only exception to this is staff and students who are medically exempt.
- Students will attend in full uniform and, on the days they have PE lessons, bring their kit to change into. The previous socially distanced changing arrangements for PE will continue.
- Additional cleaning, with a focus on high frequency touch surfaces and regular fogging of all areas, will continue to take place. Hand sanitiser, wipes, tissues and gloves will be available in all classrooms and throughout the building.
- We will continue to promote the principals of ‘Hands, Face, Space’, including frequent hand washing and good respiratory hygiene.
School attendance
All students should return to school on their allocated date unless they have been identified as clinically extremely vulnerable. If this is the case please make us aware of this as soon as possible.
Whilst the majority of our students can’t wait to get back to face to face learning, we know some students will be anxious about returning to school. If you or your child have any concerns about returning to school please contact your child’s Head of Year via the contact form on the website. We will work together to ensure every member of the Landau Community feels safe and happy to return to school.
Please continue to follow the guidance from the NHS and Public Health England, as a reminder your child must not attend school if:
- They have COVID-19 symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19
- Live with someone who has COVID-19 symptoms or who has tested positive for COVID-19
- Has been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19
