Statement of Intent
Landau Forte College Derby was founded as a partnership in 1992 with local business leaders, including Martin Landau and Sir Rocco Forte. The College currently works with D2N2, the LEP for Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. This close connection to local industry has continued to present day. The College remains committed to developing close working partnerships with members of the local and national economy to ensure that all our students’ employability skills are developed to a high standard.
It is our aim that students leave the Academy with entrepreneurial skills, a strong business acumen and the attributes required to succeed in a commercial setting. Our work with the LEP forms part of a suite of support, along with non-qualification activity (NQA) and quality careers guidance, in preparing students for the future, whatever their aspirations.
Partnership with E4E
We work in partnership with Arshad Iqbal and Enterprise for Education as part of the Economic Regeneration Division of Derby City Council. Through this partnership our students access a suite of activities, including participating in a Mock Interview Day and one to one mentoring of identified students by local business people.
We have recently appointed John Forkin, Chariman of Marketing Derby as our governor with responsibility for Careers Education Information and Guidance. John has strategic overview for the CEIAG delivery in the College along with the Curriculum Leader. The College employs an in-house Careers Counsellor to enhance the guidance our young people receive enhancing their progression into the world of work. The College is currently in the process of securing the Career Mark Award for its CEIAG, reviewing policies and procedures to ensure an innovative and impactful approach to employer engagement.
The College ensures that all students experience the world of work by continuing its commitment to Work Experience in Year 10 and 12. All students have access to the Derbyshire Work Experience database in order to secure themselves a productive and meaning placement that enhances not only their employability skills but their appeal when applying to University.
The CEIAG Team who works most frequently with the D2N2 LEP includes: Amanda Quinn(leader for CEIAG); and our Careers Counsellor, Helen Suffolk-Adams.

Overall and the Future
The Academy is proud to say that, only 1% of our students NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) having left us. This is a record to be proud of. We attribute this success to the work we conduct on student skills and with employers.
Plans for the future include:
- Further engagement with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Derby;
- Engaging with the Careers and Enterprise Company’s mentoring scheme;
- Acquiring the Careers Mark accreditation for CEIAG delivery
